Grimm's Large Pastel Wooden Rainbow

grimm-s-logo.jpg

The rainbow is a fascinating object for children of all ages. Bring a pastel rainbow home and let your child explore form and colours through creative play. Grimm's large 12-piece wooden rainbow helps to develop motor skills and sorting techniques but with some fantasy it also can be used to build bridges, tunnels, fences or even small houses. Pair with the semi circles and building boards, 12 pastel rainbow friends, Medium or Small rainbows, and other pastel sets for even more building fun! Grimm's wooden rainbow is made of alder wood and has been painted with safe water based colours and is recommended by "Spiel gut" a German toy guide. The largest piece of the rainbow measures 38 cm x 7 cm x 18 cm (15.2 x 2.8 x 7.2 inches). Grimm's toys grow with your child, with the same toys appealing to children of many ages; they are not only wonderful baby toys but are also great, creative toys for young children.

Grimm’s Product Care

Grimm’s stands for quality and longevity. When making our toys, we carefully select the wood without defects. At each step, the quality of the wood is checked. But wood lives and responds to air changes. Wood is a natural product and not indestructible, so we can not rule out that something could break. If something breaks, you can repair the piece with wood glue.

Children may be advised and prompted to use caution with their special toys.

If you want to remove dirt from our products, simply wipe with a damp cloth and some soapy water (if necessary). When drying, please do not place on the heater, otherwise cracks may occur in the wood, but allow to dry at room temperature. Please never clean our products with disinfectant, hot water or similar!

OUR MANUFACTURING

We are a family owned and sustainably managed manufacturer, which produces high quality and safe wooden toys made to officially certified standards. In product development, we are guided by the principles of Waldorf education and other educational approaches, such as Montessori. All our products are tested regularly and comply with the European Toy Safety Standard (EN 71) and US standards.

Our products always have unique traces of nature. With a few exceptions, everything is sanded and cut by hand. We use FSC certified  alder, lime, beech and maple wood. Woodworking is outsourced to small independent companies in Europe. The largest of these producers has learned his trade working in our company in Germany. At the company headquarters, new products are developed, and products are oiled, dipped in colour, assembled, quality checked, packaged and shipped all over the world.

UNIQUE MARKINGS

We love wood because it is a natural material so it always has various markings that show up in our products. The unique variations are proof of quality, not defects. For example, dark spots on the rainbow are caused by mineral deposits. This means that if the tree had grown further, a branch would have developed at this point. Black stripes are also something completely natural. This is the pith tube or "heart of the tree". It differs from the surrounding wood by the darker colour and structure. When working on the wood, it can become completely or partially visible. This feature is part of the natural appearance of the wood. Therefore, these are not defects for us, but quality features of a natural product and as such are desired and welcomed by us. We love this uniqueness of wood!

PAINTED BY HAND

All rainbow friends and decorative figures are hand-painted and decorated in the most loving detail. In assembly and packaging, we work in part with workshops for adults with special needs in Germany.

OUR COLOURS

The bright colour glaze and plant oils preserve the living surface of the wood in structure and feel. The result is a rough and yet velvety wooden surface, which contributes to a greater play value, because the individual pieces do not slip off so easily. We use glazing colours and vegetable oil for our products. Our colours are water-based, non-toxic and saliva-fast. Of course, all colours and oils are certified according to the European toy safety standard (EN 71).

Classic and Beautiful

I went back and forth so many times trying to decide whether to get the more traditional rainbow or this pastel one. I made the right choice! The pastel colours seem so much more lovely in person than the photograph. It was 'the' birthday present for my daughter which made it possible for me to justify the investment but she simply loves it and her little brother does too.

Perfect for open ended play!

This rainbow is perfect! Great for open ended play yet beautiful to display on the shelves too. It comes at a heavy price tag but I think the quality, value and longevity of the toy will make it worth the cost. I can’t wait for my little one to play with this when he’s ready.
