Eco Nuts Trial Size - approx. 10 loads

Eco Nuts Soap Nuts are a berry that grows in the Himalayas that naturally produces a soap. Eco Nuts are gentle on both clothes and skin, making them ideal for those with sensitive skin, eczema, allergies and psoriasis. Because they are so mild, they are perfect for baby clothes and cloth diapers. All-Natural Eco Nuts are also great for septic and grey water systems. Eco Nuts are wild-harvested, free of chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides. They are organically grown by mother earth and certified USDA Organic. These soap nuts are both de-seeded and sterilized for consumer protection – the only soap nuts on the market that are both!

Eco Nuts - perfect detergent for cloth diapers

A common reason why cloth diapers leak is residue buildup. Even if you use free and clear or other “so-called” natural detergents, they leave a residue on your fabric which will cause it to become less absorbent. Eco Nuts are great for cloth diapers because they do not contain any dyes, enzymes, softeners, or fragrances which contribute to the deterioration and excessive wear/tear on diapers. Eco Nuts very effectively remove all lingering smells. Also the saponin in Eco Nuts actually helps to loosen fibers in the dryer instead of tighten them, keeping your diapers as absorbant as they were when you first bought them, even after many many washes. This loosening effect that saponin has on fibers is also why no fabric softener is needed for your diapers to be soft and fluffy.

How to wash cloth diapers with Eco Nuts

Before you start – We recommend a diaper strip AND a washing machine strip. This is especially needed if any standard chemical detergent has been used in the washing machine in the last couple of months. These leave a residue in the machine that can be removed by the Eco Nuts and transfer to the diapers. To strip your washing machine, you can run a hot load with no garments and just Eco Nuts. White vinegar is optional. This will strip all residue from your washing machine. After the washing machine strip, strip your diapers using your favorite method and you are good to go.

Diapers and machine stripped and ready? Here’s what you do:

    1. Flush any solid waste down the toilet.
    2. Throw a batch of diapers (not more than 24 at a time to help with the agitation) and do a warm prewash.
    3. When this wash cycle is done, Put 2-4 Eco Nuts in the cloth bag and put it in your laundry machine. If your washing machine runs very hot with the hot cycle, fewer Eco Nuts are recommended. If you are using Eco Nuts liquid detergent, follow the directions on the bottle for your machine type.
    4. Set your machine to a Hot-Cold cycle and start.
    5. If you are using the nuts, set the bag aside to dry and your diapers are ready for the clothesline or the dryer.

If your diapers aren’t getting as white as you would like them, try leaving them in the sun for an effective natural white bleach! After drying in the sun, toss in the dryer for a few minutes to soften them up.
Eco Nuts leaves very little residue, but diapers should still be stripped once in a while for proper maintenance.

Eco Nuts receives outstanding reviews from a great number of magazines, mom bloggers and cloth diaper bloggers like Nifty Nappy, Everything Mom and Baby Approved, Cloth Diapers made simple, and more.

How to use Eco Nuts for your laundry

It takes only four easy steps to naturally clean, odor-free laundry!

  1. Place 4-5 Eco Nuts in the reusable wash bag provided and tie it closed.
  2. Put it in with your laundry and wash as normal, per manufacturer instructions.
  3. Remove the bag at the end of the wash and set aside to dry or do another load.
  4. Re-use at least 10 times until they start to disintegrate and then they can be composted in your garden or simply add new Eco Nuts to the bag.

Do not overfill your laundry machine, the Eco Nuts work more efficiently with more agitation and room to work. There is no need to add fabric softener; your laundry will come out soft and fluffy without it. Make sure you store Eco Nuts in a cool, dry place.

Eco Nuts can be used in both standard and high-efficiency machines (HE). Eco Nuts work in all washing machines with any temperature water.

Thats as simple as it gets! If you are washing clothes or items that are a little more soiled than usual, try these advanced methods:

Very Heavy Soils:
Pre soak 4-5 Eco Nuts in the sack in hot water for a few minutes and add the “tea” with the sack and put fewer clothes in the machine to provide the most agitation.

Brighter Whites:
Separate whites by themselves and add some bleach according to bleach instructions (we recommend eco-friendly oxygen bleach, but any will work). A cup of lemon juice will also work naturally.

Hand Wash:
Soak 2 Eco Nuts in bag provided in hot water and add the “tea” to your cool water basin.

Stains:
Like regular laundry detergent, Eco Nuts do not remove very greasy stains. Pre treat grease stains with a stain remover prior to washing.

Leaves sweaty sports gear smelling fresh

I decided to try these on our regular laundy and on my hot yoga clothing and my husband's sweaty soccer gear. The soap nuts left the clothing smelling like- nothing. They seemed fresh without the perfumy scent left by laundry detergents.I have not yet tried these on my cloth diapers, but I thought they worked great for my other clothes. And there's not the bulk of the jugs of laundry deterent. I would recommend and I'm looking forward to trying on my cloth diapers after I've had the chance to "strip" my washing machine as suggested by the product manufacturer.
